Manipuri Cushion 24 x 24"
Manipur means "dry land" and is a still isolated state in northeast India close to Burma. It is known for the rustic beauty of its landscape. The women of Manipur have been handing down the traditional art of hand-weaving on cotton cloth for generations. Each tribe and village has its own patterns and colors. These cushions are woven entirely by hand, on ancient looms, each piece is unique, thus perpetuating an ancestral tradition. The Manipur weavers are Vegan and do not touch animal materials, the synthetic wool yarns also allow the colors to last over time. The graphic lines are inspired by the designs of the "Meiteis" or "Manipuris" tribes of North-East India who live in the valleys.
