19th Century Large Painted French Candlestick
This monumental 19th century French candlestick almost certainly began life in a church or chapel, where pieces of this scale stood beside the altar. Carved in wood with cast iron, it rises from a tripod base through a turned and carved column to a wide drip pan with an iron pricket and candle cup. Its painted finish in cream and faded gilt has worn gently over more than a century, revealing earlier layers and small cracking in places. That kind of surface can’t be reproduced.
At 48.5" tall, it stands on the floor with real presence. Use it to flank a fireplace, mark an entry, or bring a sculptural, old-world note to a modern room. Topped with a pillar candle, it also makes a dramatic accent on a dining room sideboard or in a garden room.
